This worksop will show you how to take phenomenally creative photographs that revolve around having a lot lighting skill, not a lot of lighting gear.
I’ll be sharing and going over 6 brand new lighting setups on the day and they are as follows:
This will be the simplest setup of the day, but don't let this single light set-up fool you into thinking it's unimpressive. This setup, if done correctly, can be achieved in minutes and produce outstanding results, each and every single time.
Next, I'll show you how the addition of a second light can dramatically change the shot to create something completely different. This is a powerful setup as this really shows you the true power of creativity and how even with two lights and basics modifiers, a little colour can go a long way with the proper knowledge. And best of all, it can be wielded very quickly and efficiently to create dramatic portraits and head shots almost anywhere.
After lunch, things will start to get a little trickier as we ramp up the skill level and dive into some brand new pastel gelled lighting techniques. In these next two setups I introduce a completely new way of shooting with gels to achieve those stunningly beautiful and soft pastel tones. In this initial pastel look, I'll explain a simple two light version of this technique before we move on to the more advanced version.
In this more advanced pastel look I'll add another two lights and explain how we can use specific modifiers to not only control the power and look of our pastel gels, but to also remove the pastel colour from certain areas of our shot too.
This is probably one of my favourite all-time set-ups as the soft, pastel colours it can produce are stunning.
For the final two setups of the day we'll switch gears completely from the previous pastel look and explain how to achieve razor sharp shadows in a studio. This is yet another simple, but incredibly effective technique once you're aware of how this lighting works. In this initial coloured shadow look, I'll show you to use a single vibrant colour in the shadow of your subject with only two lights.
Last but not least, we have the slightly more advanced coloured shadow look. This requires a completely different approach to the basic coloured shadows and different modifiers and techniques have to be used. With this new setup in place though, we can begin to create vibrant colour gradients in the shadows of our subject which is a very unique and engaging look.
All attendees on the day will also receive:
Everybody will walk away with my 30+ page PDF of workshop notes detailing everything taught on the day including all the lighting diagrams and kit information.
Everybody will walk away with my 30+ page PDF of workshop notes detailing everything taught on the day including all the lighting diagrams and kit information.
Everybody will be able to follow along with me as we go through both my Lightroom and my Photoshop workflow. This is a small group so nobody will get left behind and I will ensure everybody is a the same step before continuing.
I get asked about my post-production workshop and retouching techniques all of the time. Questions like
‘How do I retouch the skin on my model shots to get that chromed-skin look you get?’ or ‘How do I deal with highly saturated colour without getting colour-banding to appear?’.
To answer these questions and everything else about my entire workflow from Lightroom import to Photoshop export, I've put together a full days worth of techniques that explains absolutely everything I do.
So if you've ever been interested in taking your retouching from good to great, my Post-Production workshop is for you.
Get your shots editorial ready as you follow along with me during a full day of face-to-face hands-on training.
We'll be going over techniques applicable to all styles of photography and although I'll be explaining how to maximise the colour information in shots like my highly saturated gel shots, the same skills are relevant to all of your images.
Some of the topics I'll be covering on the day include:
Advanced colour management in Lightroom
Professional skin retouching in Photoshop
Local and global sharpening
Dodging & Burning with colours
Colour toning and lots more.
Everything in my digital process will be explained step-by-step, no secrets will be held back and there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions specific to your own digital workflow as we go along.
All attendees on the day will also receive:
Everybody is welcome to take notes throughout the day, but I have also written all of the steps and techniques down in an easy to navigate illustrated PDF files which everybody can take away with them to keep at the end of the day too.
Plus all attendees will get over 15 of my Photoshop Actions including both my studio portrait actions and my professional editorial actions as well as over 30 of my Lightroom Presets that I use for both my commercial portraits and my coloured gel work.
If you have any questions then please feel to get in touch.
I certainly hope to see you there in a few weeks :)
